Now have you eaten your greens today?

Graham Tranter will have a near lifetime's supply of vegetable soup - after growing this gigantic cabbage weighing five stone.

The monster vegetable, grown by Graham, 66, is 50 times heavier than average and would be enough for 300 servings of cabbage soup.

Veg-growing Graham, from Bridgnorth, Shrops, has previously smashed gardening records after producing 488 tomatoes on a single truss, a feat which earned him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

He now plans to divide up the gigantic 70lb cabbage between friends or cook some himself - if he can find a pot big enough.

The vegetable measures 3ft tall and 5ft wide, was planted eight months ago in February this year, and was given a special plant mix with seaweed to help its enormous growth. Now it would be very hard to fit this in your supermarket trolley.

Graham said: 'I entered it in the East of England Show at Peterborough last week.

'Sadly, it came second to one which was about 4lbs heavier. I think I'm going to divide it up and share it out among friends. It will make a lot of cabbage soup.

Poor old Graham. You would have thought he would have had it won with tis one!
