Introducing the Archipod: the latest in garden room office design and a contemporary alternative to office overheads or that dismal commute to work. The Archipod will be unveiled to consumers for the first time at this year's Grand Designs Live London.
With advances in computer and networking technology, increasing travel costs and road congestion, working from home is becoming an increasingly feasible alternative to the everyday office commute for many professionals.
Designed around the notion that a garden building should be functional yet also part of the garden landscape, the UK-designed Archipod represents the latest solution to the present working from home dilemma, containing all of the modern comforts of a compact office.
Archipod's 'pod' office is unique in that it consists of a 3m diameter sphere rather than the conventional square box that sits in the corner of the garden. It offers an aesthetically pleasing, environmentally sustainable and practical alternative to a traditional garden office.
Designed by founding members Chris Sneesby and Rebecca Thompson and manufactured near York by Archipod Ltd, the 'pod' is constructed predominantly from timber, the world's most replenish-able construction material. It is insulated to a standard exceeding that of current Building Regulations. The structure is prefabricated in sections that are sized to allow all parts to be carried through a house. Alternatively, if the site does have easy access for lifting equipment, the whole structure can be craned into position on site. So, no matter where you live, you will be able to get the 'pod' into your back garden.
An Archipod office will not generally require Planning Permission and is delivered and installed as an integrated package, only requiring an electricity supply and a telephone connection from the house.
The 'pod' comes fitted with the following features:
Due to its unique shape and the generous natural light from the roof dome, the 'pod' actually looks more spacious inside than its outside would suggest.
Consumers curious about the pod will be able to see and get a feel for it in the GRAND Village sponsored by first direct at this year's Grand Designs Live London, which will take place from the 1st – 9th May 2010, at ExCeL Centre.
Grand Designs Live is the UK's No.1, award winning consumer show for design and inspiration for your home, Grand Designs Live, returns to London for the sixth year, running across nine days from 1st – 9th May 2010 at ExCeL in London's Docklands.
