We all have someone who is hard to buy for a Christmas. The friend who sighs and says: “I don’t need more stuff.” The sister whose style is so precise you always buy her books or toiletry sets for fear of getting it badly wrong. The family-member who always has the cleverest present ideas.

This Christmas don’t buy them “some thing”, instead give them an opportunity. London Jewellery School offers the opportunity to learn a new skill, kick off a new hobby or even a business opportunity, or to create the perfect jewellery for their specific taste.

Jewellery is big in every sense this winter – absolutely massive if you look to the catwalk for inspiration. Oversized chokers, bejeweled cuffs and statement earrings are among the must have looks this year. But why have or give the same version as everyone else on the high street when it’s possible to learn to make your own.

Chiswick mum’s children’s wallpaper design to grace the walls of V&A

Response prompts commercial launch

A new approach to the design of children’s wallpaper, created by a mum from West London, has received the accolade of being selected as part of Inspired by…, a display at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A).

The wallpaper was developed by artist and designer Rebecca Harker from Chiswick, who needed to create a nursery for the twins she’s expecting in the New Year. Frustrated by the lack of well-designed children’s wallpaper, she decided to learn how to do it herself, and joined a course on silk-screen printing. It was during her time assisting in the furniture department at the V&A last year that Rebecca was inspired by some of the museum’s collection to develop the novel Dinosaur-themed design.

Wildflower Turf Ltd and key conservation charity link up to provide havens for wildlife in Sussex

Wildlife is to become one of the unexpected ‘legacy' beneficiaries of the Olympics, thanks to a joint initiative between the Hampshire-based organisation, Wildflower Turf Ltd, and a conservation charity.

The Meadows Nectar Networks Initiative and Wildflower Turf are set to plant wildflowers and grasses, which were featured at the Olympics, across specially selected UK locations with a view to promoting regional biodiversity and sustainability.

Wildflower Turf, pioneers in producing the first soil-less growing system for wildflowers and grasses, developed a unique blend of turf for the Olympics which featured at the opening ceremony and across a range of sites including the Equestrian centre and the Athletes' village. The company is aiming to extend the benefits of its product by donating significant quantities of the same unique mix to permanent sites.

Mylands paints for Christmas PDF Print E-mail

What are the colours of Christmas?

[image]We think of Father Christmas, the Queens Speech, roaring fires and presents, so which colours provide the backdrop for our festivities and where do they come from?

Royal Warrant holders Mylands established in 1884, a company that is the very essence of British Christmas values, has a choice os 120 historically inspired British colours in its new Colours of London paint collection, or indeed it can make up any colour bespoke.

Many generations of the Myland family have run the company, building up an unsurpassed range of master craftsman made paints that are at the very core of the British psyche. Mylands paints are depended on for use in many of the greatest historic buildings in London. Tried and tested techniques have been passed down through the years, making Mylands' master colourmen the best in the business. While they make use of every innovation that the industry has developed, they find that a digital colour match cannot compete with the craftsman's touch, and they still carry out much of their final colour matching by eye.

New Supersized Brick Tile
Topps Tiles’ much-loved Metro brick tiles have adorned UK homes over recent years to become one of their best selling ranges. With over 20 hot, cool and soft neutral colours, available in satin ceramic, shiny glass, metallic and gloss finishes, the versatility of this urban style bridges modern and classic design to complement any traditional or contemporary setting from rural country cottage to city chic.
Sizes range from miniature scales of 15 x 7.5cm – perfect for creating the illusion of space, to the popular and timeless 10 x 20cm. They have now been supersized with the launch of Diamante; an extra large beveled edge linear brick tile that’s available in five colours; Cream, Mocha, Navy, Teal and White. A design classic inspired by the undergrounds of the 1900’s, the new size features extended dimensions of 10x30cm for a twist on this on trend style.
The beauty of this collection is the ability to choose from beautiful finishes in three sizes from a prism of tonal, harmonious or complementary colours that fuses with a classic style to create an eclectic look, adding a stylish dimension to any setting. Accent architectural features or create a focal point with a vibrant Metro glass tile functioning as a kitchen splashback. Open up a small space and blanket a wall with a neutral ceramic for an on trend utilitarian look, or for statement making style, team colours from a vivid palette to add depth and give rooms a burst of colour – use Metallic Metro for a little sprinkling of sparkle. Bring homes right up to date and combine with a contrasting grout to enhance the authentic feel of the design.
