Top Tips when choosing a chandelier from The Lighting Store PDF Print E-mail

What you need to know when buying a chandelier

[image][image][image]

Lighting can make or break the look of a room and nothing makes more of a statement in a room as a chandelier. Here are The Lighting Store's top tips for choosing a chandelier.

The Lighting Store has been run by the same family for three generations and has been supplying and advising customers on beautiful lighting for over 60 years with brands like Flos, Artemide, Foscarini and more.

Ceiling Height - whether you're chosing a traditional or modern design the height of your ceiling is a major factor when choosing the design. Our eyes automatically lift towards the ceiling when we enter a room so, if you want to give the impression of extra height fit a chandelier that hangs closer to the ceiling. This is especially important in new builds where the ceilings are often quite low.

Size Matters - make sure the size of the chandelier is in proportion to the rest of the room, there's nothing worse than seeing a small chandelier hanging in a big room, or vice versa. The wrong size light can have a negative impact on the ambience of a room.

17th Century Dutch Delft tile designs from Art on Tiles PDF Print E-mail

PRESS RELEASE Issue date: 24th October 2012

17th CENTURY DUTCH DELFT TILE DESIGNS from Art on Tiles

Art on Tiles - the bespoke hand painted tile company - has re-discovered this charming set of six Dutch delft tile designs and made them available once more.

[image][image][image][image][image]

The original tiles were commissioned in the 17th century on the orders of a Dutch princess who married into the German royal family. On moving to Germany she immediately commissioned a Dutch architect with whom she spent more than twenty years decorating her husband's ancestral home to her taste.

The tiles, featuring a series of biblical scenes with a circular border and traditional oxhead corner motifs, were created in the traditional Dutch Delft technique which involves painting natural cobalt onto raw tin glaze before firing.

Jonathan Waights, Art on Tiles artist says; "There is a rich tradition of re-creating and passing on these lovely old designs and it is great to make these ones available once more. As well as hand painting them to order, which takes around six weeks, we are offering a digitally printed version which is ideal for customers who might need a faster lead time or have a tighter budget."

Top Tips for lighting children's rooms: When lighting a child's bedroom it is a good idea to use directional spots, to highlight certain areas, whether it's a baby's changing table or a feeding or reading chair. Make sure you use a dimmer switch so that you can change the mood of the room, especially when it's bedtime or you want the children to play quietly in their rooms, and have a children's plug in night light with a very low wattage to keep an eye on them without disturbing them and for going to the toilet.

The Lighting Store is the UK's premier lighting company, run by the same family for three generations, with two London showrooms (Baker Street and Finchley Road) and a fabulous online store, have been supplying and advising customers on beautiful lighting for over 60 years with brands like Flos, Artemide, Foscarini and more.

The Lighting Store has a loyal following of retail customers based throughout the UK and its knowledgeable team work with individual customers and also some of London's leading developers and interior designers advising customers the right lighting at the right prices. They have a well deserved reputation for their expertise, extensive and stylish selection of lighting to suit all budgets and of course for exceptional customer service.

Why did a garden hose have to be restitched?
What is being rescued from the Red Cow pub roof?
How did a Lotus Esprit turned into a people carrier?
Why did the Freemasons Arms have to be restitched?
Where does a wedding feature in the tapestry?
Which cloud has a silver lining and why?
Find out why the sanding scenes took 20 hours to complete!
The Knutsford Millennium Tapestry was created between 1997 and 2001 to celebrate Knutsford in the Millennium year. This community project details all walks of life in Knutsford and is the work of over 3,000 members of the local community. Each road, street and lane can be seen on the tapestry along with over 500 everyday scenes. The three panels measure 12 metres in total, using 53 metres of canvas, 52 miles of wool and 150 needles were used in its creation.
